“The City of Emotions” is located on the border of the historical regions of eastern Slavonia and western Syrmia. The area of Vukovar has always been a crossroads, a place of contact between different cultures. The population of the Vukovar region can be traced back 5000 years through numerous archaeological sites, with the most famous being the Vučedol site. Vukovar has the privilege of having its two rivers: the Danube and the Vuka, and is connected to Budapest and Vienna by the Danube. The significance that Vukovar residents attribute to the Danube and the river Vuka is evident in the saying: “Whoever eats pike from the Danube and drinks from the Vuka river, will never forget Vukovar.”
